Hi, this is Noel. Today Denise is going to talk about the pattern of God equipping us with the Desires we need. I am going to help you with Step 1 in Bible study--seeing the facts of a passage by going over a 5th example.
You can either read the Lesson or watch the video. To take notes either print out the Lesson, follow along in the book, or use a separate piece of paper to write out the answers to the questions below.
God's Desire-led Pattern
It is God's pattern to equip us with the Desires we need. God equips an infant with a Desire for milk. In 1 Peter 2:2 the Bible says our Desire for God is like that baby's Desire for milk.
1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation (NIV)
If a newborn baby is healthy, he or she Desires milk. The baby does not need to use Discipline to drink the milk. So think back to when you first accepted God's gift and remember the Desire you felt for Him.
Consider the deer in Psalms 42:1-2 who has a deep, natural, God-given thirst for water. God has placed the same thirst within you.
Psalms 42:1-2 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? (NIV)
These are God-given Desires that keep us on track. Consider the Desire God has placed within you. We will help you find that Desire, strengthen it, and guard it.
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (NIV)
Skill Time: Seeing the Facts, Example 5
The first step in devotional Bible study is to see the Facts in the passage. Look at the Bible passage below and write down what you see. Each Fact you see is like a piece in a jigsaw puzzle. If you keep identifying pieces it won't be long until you start to see what the passage is about.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
1 John 4:19 We love, because He first loved us. (NASB)
What do you see in the passage?
Watch the video or check the answers below to compare what you see in the passage with what we get.
Next time, we'll go over this assignment. Also, Denise will summarize God's Desire-led Pattern and I'll talk about Seeing Facts in the Bible, Example 6.
If you are stuck, reply to this email and ask a question.
